When I was a boy, I used to love to fish off the end of the dock at my Grandpa's cottage. you could always see perch and sunfish lazily swimming and flitting about through the clear water. I would catch and release, catch and release and would always wonder if I'd tricked the same fish more than once, or if they'd ever learned their lesson and started ignoring my bait.

One evening I got called up for dinner. I decided to leave my fishing rod and hopefully come back to a fresh catch, but when I got back it was gone! I didn't know what happened to it and was a little heartbroken. I went back to the cottage where the drunk adults just sipped their beer and gently chastised me about leaving my things unattended.

The next day I went for a swim off the dock. during my play I noticed a glint in the water and reached out for it. It was my fishing rod. As i was bringing it back up to the dock, I felt the line stirring. The pull was stronger than I had been used to, I started reeling it in. As i pulled the creature closer, it thrashed on the surface with such strength I'd not seen before. I pulled it up to the dock to discover it was a bass, my first time catching that type or size of fish. Easily 3 or 4 times the size of anything id caught before.

I ran to the adults to tell them what had happened, raising the fish up high for all to see. My great uncle smiled back and bought the fish from me for a twonie, and threw it back into the lake.
